Jack Tretton is stepping down as Sony Computer Entertainment America President and CEO, he announced in a message posted on the PlayStation.Blog this afternoon.
His departure from PlayStation was mutual, says Tretton. Shawn Layden, the current executive vice president and COO of Sony Network Entertainment International, will be taking his place on April 1, 2014.
“I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers,” says Tretton. “Serving PlayStation fans for the past 19 years has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. Your passion for gaming inspired me every day.”
Tretton began with SCEA since its inception in 1995 and helped launch the original PlayStation and all its console iterations since. No doubt he will be greatly missed at Sony. We wish him the best in whatever endeavor he ends up at next. Thank you for all the wonderful years!
