DRIVECLUB finally has a launch date. Racing fans will be able to put on their driving gloves and take the game for a ride on October 8, 2014, PlayStation revealed in a new trailer today.
Originally planned as one of the PS4’s launch titles, the racing sim was met with multiple delays that pushed the game into “sometime in 2014” territory.
SCE President Shuhei Yoshida took to the PlayStation.Blog to give the reasons behind the game’s delays, saying:
“We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game. The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category, and, because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for.”
Yoshida also announced that Paul Rustchynsky, who previously worked on MotorStorm RC, has taken over as DRIVECLUB’s Game Director. He has also worked on all Evolution Studios major titles since 2004.
It’s good to finally have a definitely release date for one of the PS4’s most anticipated titles. We can only hope that there will be no more bumps in the road leading up until then.
