It’s time to don a black cape, grab some explosive gel and jump in the Batmobile, as this week’s most played game was the awesome Batman: Arkham Knight. Also on the PS4A playlist were Destiny, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, J-Stars Victory VS+, MotoGP 15 and Ultra Street Fighter IV.
Despite the release of the latest in the Batman franchise, I’ve focused my energy this week on Destiny, as I continue to understand what all the fuss is about. I completed the ‘story’ on Sunday morning, and I’m currently sitting at Level 19 and three quarters. I’m led to believe that life begins at 20 in Destiny, so I’m excited to see what happens next. I’m also keen to be able to use that Level 20 sniper rifle that’s been sitting in my armoury for some time – it looks like a beast! There certainly have been some outstanding moments in Destiny so far (moments I’m certain you’ve all lived through by now), and I’m still enjoying the game immensely. Now comes the million-dollar question; which faction will I choose?
I finally have something of substance to report this week, as I’ve spent a great deal of time playing Batman: Arkham Knight. I essentially ploughed through the main story this past weekend, playing almost nonstop. It’s easily the best in the Arkham franchise. Rocksteady have done a phenomenal job with the game, even if the Batmobile didn’t turn out as great as I hoped. That being said, it’s still not as bad as everyone was saying on social media; it just takes some getting used to. I’m only about 85% done with the game, with a few more side missions to finish and about 200 Riddler trophies to find, so it may take a while to get the ‘true’ ending. Thankfully I’m loving every minute of it.
While most of the team is playing Batman: Arkham Knight this week, I’ve mainly been playing J-Stars Victory VS+, MotoGP 15 and Ultra Street Fighter IV. There’s a great Japanese-themed sale on the European PS Store right now, and although I already own a majority of them, I did pick up a few Disgaea games, along with Lunar: Silver Star Harmony. I’ve been playing Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero?, which is great fun even though it’s very difficult. Mortal Kombat X and Hatsune Miku Project Diva F saw a little play time this week too. I’ve also returned to Persona 4 Golden and I’m finishing up my third playthrough, before starting my fourth! And speaking of returning to old games, I’ve installed Tombi! to my Vita and have started another playthrough on it – I adored the game as a kid.
Predictably, the vast majority of my gaming time has been spent on Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, which somehow keeps getting better and better. I think I must be over halfway through the main story now, and I’m excited to see where it goes next (quite literally, as I’ve only unlocked four of the six new wildnerness areas). Whenever I wasn’t playing Final Fantasy XIV, I was probably dishing out some vigilante justice in Batman: Arkham Knight, which I’m really enjoying. Like Matt, I’m also surprised by the amount of Batmobile hate that has accrued online, as so far I’ve found that it complements the standard Arkham gameplay extremely well (although, I have to admit, it is a little contrived that Gotham seems to have an almost limitless supply of unmanned battle cars).
