This week at PS4 Attitude, Dolph suffered through another week with no gaming, Matt continued his playthrough of the Metal Gear Solid saga (I wonder why that could be…), Mitch got to grips with the Street Fighter V beta, and I did my best to pretend I wasn’t scared by Until Dawn.
Despite actually being back in the UK (a novelty right now), I’ve had no time to even switch the PS4 on. The most action it had this week was when someone else decided it was a better device for Netflix than the Tivo, which is probably true (Tivo can be a slow old dog). I fully intend to get back into gaming this coming week, so you can expect a much fuller update from me in seven days from now.
In preparation for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain coming out this week, I’ve been on a mad dash to finish the previous games in the series, chronologically speaking. I had already finished Snake Eater not too long ago, which meant moving on to Portable Ops. That ended up being a quick 2 day turnaround after dusting off my old PSP. The biggest annoyance was not having a second thumbstick to control the camera angles, and having to constantly shift between moving Snake and the camera using the directional pad. I am currently plowing my way through Peace Walker HD for the first time on the PS3. It’s already miles ahead of Portable Ops. I should have it finished soon and then it’s on to Ground Zeroes, and then The Phantom Pain. There’s going to be a lot of Metal Gear Solid in my future; that’s for sure!
This week I’ve mostly been playing Rocket League, Life is Strange and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3. You can expect a review on the latter very soon! Rocket League still proves to be one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had online and Life is Strange is really good too; I’ve just started episode 4. The Street Fighter V beta has been back on, so I had a couple of rounds on that but I’d rather wait for the full game really! Cammy is still fantastic though, and I like some of her new moves a lot. I’m excited for the inclusion of Rainbow Mika too! Now I’m waiting for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Xblaze: Code Embryo!
I thought I’d establish a record for today’s PlayTime, and not mention Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward; well, OK, apart from right there. Instead, over the weekend I’ve been glued to recently released horror game, Until Dawn. Although I was always cautiously optimistic, developer Supermassive Games is a relatively unknown quantity when it comes to delivering AAA titles, so it’s awesome to be able to say that the PS4 has another must-play exclusive.
After a fairly slow (but still enjoyable) opening few hours, the story is really picking up the pace now; in fact, two characters have already met an untimely demise (through no fault of my own, of course!). As well as looking great and absolutely nailing the teen horror vibe, Until Dawn has some additional little details that I really appreciate in games, such as unlockable behind-the-scenes videos, and collectibles that genuinely add to the experience.
Thanks to the bank holiday in the UK, I also received Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain three days early. However, as I’ve been focused mainly on Until Dawn, I haven’t played it much yet (what I’ve seen so far has been awesome though!).
