This week, Matt grew more and more excited to finally play No Man’s Sky, Mitch played a whole lot of Overwatch, and I tried and failed to get better at Rocket League.
Even though I didn’t play anything for this Picks (or multiple past Picks by now, for that matter), I decided that I should contribute something and tell readers what I’m excited to be playing soon. Namely, No Man’s Sky. I’ve been excited about this game since it was first revealed. The idea of exploring a near infinite number of planets and the gorgeous visuals instantly sold me.
Now that release week is finally here, I am still as excited to play No Man’s Sky today as I was when it debuted. There’s been some talk lately about how the game couldn’t possibly live up to expectations, and even the recent post-launch patch that drastically changes the game itself caused quite a stir among the community. However, my Limited Edition copy is currently in the mail, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to start exploring the universe.
I’ve surpassed level 100 in Overwatch now, so I’m going around again with a star under my name, and I just cannot get enough of this game! I’m able to play pretty much every character, but I’m definitely best when playing as D.Va; I mained her pre-buff but now she’s much better. Overwatch is probably the best first-person shooter I’ve ever played, and I know I won’t be stepping away from it any time soon, as I’ve clocked in almost 80 hours and haven’t become fatigued at all – put simply, it’s outstanding. I’ve been playing ranked and I’m currently rank 58, but the season ends in about a week, so I don’t think I’ll be going much higher!
Another game I’ve spent a fair bit of time with is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, which was on PSN for £13, and with the patches it’s a really fun game and I’m enjoying it a lot. It feels a lot like the older Tony Hawk games (Underground was clearly the best, though), and while I imagine pre-patch it was pretty awful, it’s a decent game now. It’s just a shame that Activision rushed to launch it and hurt the series.
Somewhat randomly, the main game I’ve played over the last couple of weeks was probably Rocket League, which is just as fun now as it was when it released in July last year. I got back into it because I recently started playing ranked with some friends, despite the fact that I’m not exactly what you would call a natural. I think I’m (slowly) getting better, although I seem to either play amazingly well or appallingly badly, with no in between; much to the chagrin of my team mates. Hopefully I’ll become more consistent in time!
